Online Readings (required)

All other readings are online either on the web or on the course Canvas site.

See the course Schedule page, where readings are linked to online resources. These include a few paywalled materials requiring logging in through the campus VPN (how to access) or campus library proxy server (how to access), plus a few other materials in Canvas requiring your UCSBNetID.

Because so many readings are online (an increasingly prevalent trend in college courses), students will need to develop an organized method or workflow for themselves that optimizes their ability to study the materials. (See the first of the required, ungraded assignments due in section meeting the second week of the course: “Create your system for working with online readings”.) While everyone has their own hardware/software platforms and personal preferences, the following guide by Prof. Liu includes suggested options for handling online materials: “Guide to Downloading and Managing Online Readings.
